Daniel Farke: Today was definitely a good day

Boss reflects on pre-season win.

Daniel Farke vs RB Leipzig

It is now three wins in a row in pre-season for Daniel Farke’s Leeds United, with goals either side of the break from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha earning a victory over RB Leipzig.

In a first ever meeting with the club who finished third in last campaign’s Bundesliga, the Whites were impressive at Elland Road, leaving the boss thrilled with his team’s progress over the last month.

“It is a pre-season game so I am far away from over-interpretating it," the boss began, reflecting on the win over our European opponents.

“It is four wins in a row in pre-season against good opponents, Sunderland, Liverpool and today two good games [two lots of 60 minutes] against a team that competes for the German title and playing Champions League football.

“I think we were the better side and deserved to win this game, although it was competitive, so it is so far, so good and we are on a good path, we know this, and we take lots of confidence out of this.

“Like always, there was a few things we could have improved, especially in possession, but overall we created more or less chances for more goals, we were a bit unlucky with the crossbar not to score a few more.

“I am most delighted about that we play against such a strong opponent over 120 minutes in pre-season where everyone is a bit tired, with many changes, and you still play 2-0 with a clean sheet. Many positives to take that I wanted to see, and I did see a lot today.

“Today was definitely a good day but we know right now that if we stop, we won’t be ready for Nottingham Forest so the real stuff begins in two weeks time, we have a few steps to go.

“For today I am happy but from tomorrow we work again.”
