United manager Brian McDermott is pleased with the mentality and desire that his players have shown him during the opening weeks of the new season.

The squad have shown a determination to succeed that was proved with Luke Murphy’s dramatic winning strike on the opening day against Brighton and Hove Albion.

United have only tasted defeat once during the opening seven games of the season and are currently sitting in tenth position in the Sky Bet Championship.

Although the manager is happy with his players, he admits that there is room for improvement when the season restarts after the international break at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday September 14.

“The group's mentality has pleased me,” said the manager. “The group's desire and determination to do the right things.

“We have to work with the ball, especially at Elland Road.

“We have to pass the ball better and we have to make things happen. We have to enjoy the atmosphere and enjoy trying to break teams down.

“We have to do better than we did against QPR but having said that we were playing against possibly the best team in the division and we more than matched them. We should have come out of that game with a 0-0.”
