Brian McDermott paid tribute to the 1,388 fans who sang their way through Tuesday's defeat at Bournemouth.

Despite being three goals down at half-time, the travelling United fans were in full voice throughout the disappointing defeat.

"I was so disappointed with all of the players because our fans were unbelievable and were there in numbers," said the boss. "They were fantastic.

"They are the soul of the club. They are what it is all about. Season after season they come, and they deserve something to hang on to."
