Archie Crowned Championship Young Player of the Year

18 year old impresses in debut season for Leeds

Leeds United star Archie Gray has won the EFL's Championship Young Player of the Year award, after impressing in his breakthrough season with the Whites.

Nominated alongside Norwich City's Jon Rowe and Birmingham City's Jordan James, Gray has featured 46 times for Leeds since making his debut in the 2023/24 season opener against Cardiff City.

The midfielder has been operating at right back for the majority of the season, helping the Whites to twenty clean sheets, as the side battles at the top of the table for promotion to the Premier League.

On winning the award, the 18 year old said "I'm honoured to win this award, having heard the previous names that have won it. I've just got to stay humble and keep on working hard because I've come a long way. I've gained a lot of experience and learned a lot of new things along the way.

"I trusted my ability but I've been lucky with the teammates and manager that I've got. Since I've come in when I was 15, my teammates have all been really helpful with me. Especially this season, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu when I've been moving to right-back and teaching me a lot of things and analysing things with me after the game."

Gray follows in the footsteps of some esteemed company, including Jude Bellingham, Brennan Johnson, Michael Olise, Ollie Watkins, Wilfried Zaha and Gareth Bale.
