INJURY NEWS: WOOD TO BE SIDELINED

Steve Evans confirms the striker will be out for "a couple of weeks"...

Steve Evans has confirmed that striker Chris Wood will be sidelined for "a couple of weeks" with a hamstring injury sustained in the recent 1-1 draw away to Brentford.

After a brief injury lay-off at the start of the year, Wood returned to the starting line-up for last week’s trip to Griffin Park but was forced off during the first half after pulling up with a separate issue.

The New Zealand international underwent scans earlier this week to discover the extent of the problem, and Evans says the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round tie away to Watford could be the game to target for a comeback.

“Chris Wood has had the results of his scan and he’s going to be missing for a couple of weeks,” said the head coach.

“We’ll see if he can be ready for Watford in the week leading up to that game.

“He was out with his hamstring for five or six games after Christmas and then we got him back in good shape. It’s now a different muscle in the hamstring that has got a little strain.

“The prognosis is a couple of weeks from now. It could be a little more but that’s really down to the healing of the body.

“It’s unfortunate that he’s been out with one and then a completely unrelated one in the same area happens to him.

“It’s important that we don’t rush him back. The medical team did a great job last time.

“The scans have shown the previous muscle that he strained is in great shape.”
