CAMBRIDGE UNITED: LEEDS FIGHT BACK TO PROGRESS

Leeds come back to reach fourth round.

Emirates FA Cup

Cambridge United 1 (Ikpeazu 25) Leeds United 1 (Dallas 56, Mowatt 63)

Second half goals from Stuart Dallas and Alex Mowatt ensured there would be no Emirates FA Cup upset at the Cambs Glass Stadium.

Leeds almost got off to a great start inside three minutes, Mowatt played in Marcus Antonsson and his dinked effort hit the crossbar.

Cambridge almost capitalised on a Leeds defensive error and Uche Ikpeazu was handed an opportunity to strike on goal, but he couldn’t get the better or Marco Silvestri.

The hosts were awarded a controversial free-kick in the 24th minute and Pontus Jansson received his tenth booking of the season, meaning he will miss United’s next two matches.  From the free-kick Luke Berry’s effort found its way to Ikpeazu and he smashed the ball into the back of the net, firing low via the left post.

Mowatt went close to pulling a goal back for Garry Monk’s side, his super long range effort brought out the best of U’s goalkeeper Will Norris to keep the scores level.

From the resulting corner Dallas whipped in and Liam Cooper was denied at point blank range by Norris to deny the Leeds skipper.

After the break Cambridge almost doubled their advantage at a corner, the ball fell to James Dunne and his lobbed effort was denied by a fine save from Silvestri.

Leeds were level ten minutes into the second half, Mowatt floated a fine cross and Dallas headed home into the far left corner.

The Whites then took the lead for the first time in the match, Dallas put a corner into the box which was headed towards goal by Jansson and Mowatt did the rest.

Mowatt then went close to adding a third Leeds goal, he did really well to keep the ball in play at the by-line before shooting just wide from a narrow angle.

Cambridge goalscorer Ikpeazu went close to doubling his tally from a corner with seven minutes remaining, however he was unable to guide his attempt on target.

Piero Mingoia then struck from range for the home side and Silvestri could only parry and luckily for Leeds, it doesn't go into the back of the net.

Ikpeazu then tried a long range effort at the death, but Leeds held on to progress to the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup to set up an away tie at either Sutton United or AFC Wimbledon.
