Leeds United 2 (Roofe 68, Wood 90+4) Aston Villa 0
Kemar Roofe scored his first Leeds United goal to help Garry Monk’s side defeat Aston Villa 2-0 at Elland Road.
The game got off to an even start, Rob Green was first called into action 11 minutes into the match, Aston Villa won a corner and the Leeds goalkeeper made an easy save from Rudy Gestede’s header.
Jonathan Kodjia had an opportunity when the ball fell to him kindly on the edge of the box, but he could only put his effort over the crossbar.
Roofe had Leeds’ first chance of the match in the 23rd minute, he did well to break into the Aston Villa penalty area from the left wing, but could only find the side netting with his effort.
Pontus Jansson then went close from a Leeds corner, Charlie Taylor whipped in a fine cross at the set-piece, but the Sweden international could only head over the crossbar.
Leeds had another opportunity six minutes from the interval at another set piece, the ball had come out of the box to Souleymane Doukara who dinked the ball into the area and Kyle Bartley headed just wide of the Villa goal.

The visitors came out of the blocks quickly in the second half, it took striker Kodjia less than 20 seconds to fire at goal from range, but he couldn’t find the target.
Albert Adomah then came closest to breaking the deadlock, he charged his way through the Leeds defence to go through on goal, but Green earnt his money with a great save to deny the forward.
A minute later Ashley Westwood found space on the edge of the box, he fired at goal and once again Green made another fine stop to keep the scored level.
United took the lead in the 68th minute, Doukara put in a brilliant cross from the left wing and Roofe beat Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini to the ball and headed home in front of the Kop, to break his duck.
In the first minute of added time Chris Wood had a chance to seal it, he was picked out at the back post by Taylor, before controlling with his chest and firing at goal from a narrow angle, but he was denied by Gollini.
Leeds then wrapped up the points with virtually the last kick of the game, Hadi Sacko sped down the field before going through on goal, he shot and the ball trickled under Gollini who got something to the ball and Wood smashed home to seal the victory and move Leeds up to fourth spot in the Championship.
