Whites record away win.

Division One North

Chorley Ladies 0 Leeds United Ladies 1 (Hannon 3)

A wonderful free kick from Bridie Hannon and an excellent goalkeeping display from Lauryn Colman ensured a vital three points for Leeds United Ladies in this roses clash at Victory Park.

The Whites took the lead in the third minute when Hannon’s ambitious free kick from 40 yards drifted under the bar, despite a touch from Chorley goalkeeper Meghan Pope.

The game was end to end with both sides having penalty appeals turned down.  First Leeds were denied when Shelbey Morris cross looked to be handled by a Chorley defender and at the other end, goal-scorer Hannon tangled with Ezzia Smith in the box.

Leeds had the next shot on goal through debutant Abby Parkin, but her shot lacked any real conviction.

Laura Wallace then had half a chance for the hosts, but her shot from 30 yards drifted well wide of Colman’s post.

Leeds had a lucky escape when a Smith header hit the cross bar and looked to have bounced in, but the goal was not given as the referee waved play on.

Half time Chorley 0 Leeds United 1

Chorley had the first real chance of the half when Kathy Bonner’s looping shot was held by Colman on 64 minutes.

Colman was then on hand twice to keep Leeds in front, first she held a long shot from Mel Ball and then a header from Smith from 10 yards out.

It was again Colman to the rescue soon after, this time denying  Ball once more, who headed at goal.

Leeds had a glorious chance to make it two but Rachel Stuart couldn’t quite get a clean connection to her shot.

It was Colman again who denied Chorley, this time denying Smith with a fierce shot from 15 yards.

Beth Davies then went close to doubling the Leeds lead, but her shot went just inches over the bar.

Smith had a wonderful chance to equalise with Colman stranded and out of goal but her shot was just too high as Leeds held on for the victory.
