Leeds United ladies win 3-4 in Magpies clash..

This weekend saw the Leeds United Ladies make an away trip up North as they faced Newcastle in their sixth league game of the season.

The game didn’t start well for Leeds as Newcastle managed to score in the first six minutes of play but the Whites responded well and quickly equalised with a goal from Marty Petrova.

It wasn’t long until Leeds came back again with some great work from Arianne Parnham whose superb strike hit the back of the net.

Just after the half hour mark Newcastle equalised once more with a goal from Hannah Cottam.

Leeds were denied their reply, despite the best endeavour by Arianne Parnham and her surging runs into the Newcastle box and the half played out all square.

Within just ten minutes, Leeds were ahead again. Jemma White who had been a dominant threat throughout the first half played in Charlotte Adams who just had to direct her shot on target. The ball nestled home and Leeds had the advantage once more. Newcastle 2 Leeds 3

Newcastle continued to press and breached the Leeds back line a number of times. They finally broke through with a very well taken goal by Steph Ord on 70 minutes. Her headed goal sailed beyond the reach of Hannah Cottam who was unsighted in the busy penalty area and Newcastle were once again drawing. Newcastle 3 Leeds 3

The fight which Leeds displayed was utterly commendable as they found another goal. On 79 minutes player of the match Jemma White was on hand to put in an inch perfect pass to the industrious Arianne Parnham. Arianne made no mistake with her shot as she unleashed a thunderbolt that went in off the crossbar and struck Leeds into a 4-3 lead. Newcastle 3 Leeds 4

With 10 minutes to hang on to their lead, Newcastle did not stop looking to come back again. If it wasn’t for the safe hands of Hannah Cottam to deny Rhiannon Grey they may have just done that.

Leeds had a good chance to pull further ahead as a shot from Liuli Dyson was powered into the area which forced a fantastic goal line clearance from Newcastle.
