The Leeds United Ladies have raised almost £500 after they took part in an annual boat race challenge in.
The challenge, the Rotary Dragon Boat race, is ran by the Wakefield Chantry and Huddersfield Rotary Club and is a race of more than 50 teams competing to win the Stuart Wardell Memorial trophy.
The Leeds United Ladies raised funds for taking part in the race and donated their money to the ‘Getaway Girls’ – a charity that gives members the opportunity to try new skills through the arts and sport that would normally be unavailable to them.
The Leeds Ladies boat team was made up of players, parents and committee members and gained an impressive 23rd place out of 50 teams.
Some members of the ‘Getaway Girls’ were special guests at the Ladies’ home fixture at Elland Road and were presented with a cheque pitchside from Leeds’ defender Fiona Berry.
Flavia Docherty, Director of the Getaway Girls, said: “I just want to say thank you for the cheque for £480 which will help the charity support more young women.
“We really enjoyed the watching the football at Elland Road and I am sure young women will want to support the team and go to more matches”.
Lee Townend, Leeds United Ladies Chairman, said: “It was lovely to be in a position where we could donate the money and we hope they can use the money to help even more people.                                                                                                                                                                                                                    “We had an amazing time at the race and thoroughly enjoyed what was a well organised and fun event, bring on next year”.
