PREVIEW: Leeds United Women vs Norton & Stockton Ancients Ladies

PREVIEW: Leeds United Women vs Norton & Stockton Ancients Ladies

Whites in midweek action.

Leeds United Women are in FA Women's National League Division One North action on Wednesday evening, as they host Norton & Stockton Ancients Ladies at the So-Trak Stadium (8pm kick-off).

Rick Passmoor will be looking for a response from his side, after a poor performance on Sunday saw them fall to a 3-1 defeat at Chorley.

The Whites started well, taking the lead on 16 minutes through Amy Woodruff but the hosts rallied and were 3-1 up before half time. Leeds enjoyed the majority share of possession in the second half, but The Magpies saw the game out to claim all three points.

Norton were also beaten on their last outing, over two weeks ago, as Newcastle ran out 4-0 winners at Kingston Park Stadium, so they will also be seeking a return to winning ways.

Previous meetings:

The Whites fell to a disappointing defeat in the reverse fixture, with Norton running out 3-1 winners thanks to a Bianca Owens hat-trick. Woodruff grabbed a late consolation for Leeds.

Players to watch:

Leeds will be thankful that Owens is no longer with The Ancients after being recalled from her loan by Newcastle United. The striker has a history of scoring against The Whites, including her hat-trick back in October.

She is clearly a big loss for Norton, having scored 13 of their 21 league goals this season. Instead, the visitors will be looking towards Sophie Tierney and Sophie Hodgson for more contribution in front of goal, they have netted two each so far this campaign.

For Leeds, goals continue to be spread around the team, with 13 different scorers this season. Abbie Brown still leads the way with 14 and she has Woodruff hot on her heels with 13.

One player yet to find the back of the net this season is Paige Williams, but the midfielder has impressed of late with a consistent run of games in midfield, bringing energy and quality to the middle of the park. She is another player to keep an eye on as she looks to continue that run of form against Norton.
