Preview: AFC Fylde Women vs Leeds United Women

Whites in Quarter-Final action on Sunday.

Leeds United Women are in cup action again this weekend, as they make the trip to AFC Fylde in the FA Women’s National League Plate Quarter-Final.

The Whites are once again tasked with overcoming higher-league opposition in the Cup, but it is a challenge that they have relished so far this season having beaten Brighouse Town (FA Cup 1st Round), West Brom (FAWNL Plate 2nd Round) and Stoke City (FA Cup 3rd Round) so far this season.

Fylde have advanced to this stage of the competition after beating Doncaster Belles 2-1 in the 1st Round and scraping past league rivals Boldmere St. Michaels on Penalties (4-3 after 3-3 draw), both at home.

Leeds are also in the Quarter-Finals after two home wins, The Whites beat Solihull Moors 3-1 in Round One and produced one of their performances of the season to beat West Brom 2-1 in Round Two.

Both sides come into this game after defeats to WSL opposition last weekend. A spirited performance for Leeds was not enough as Arsenal’s world class quality shone through, whilst Fylde were beaten by Aston Villa.

Supporter Information:

For supporters making the trip to Fylde, kick-off is at 2pm at Kellamergh Park: Bryning with Warton, PR4 1TN.

For those who can’t attend, we will have live updates right here on leedsunited.com and Highlights will be available on LUTV.

Players to Watch:

Faye McCoy is one player in particular, that Leeds will have to keep a close eye on. The Coasters’ forward is their top scorer so far this season with 10 goals in 19 games.

McCoy was also Fylde’s top scorer last season, finishing eighth in the NPD goalscoring charts with an impressive return of 20 goals in 28 games.

Leeds’ top scorers so far this season are Amy Woodruff and Macey Ellis with six each. Abbie Brown is close behind on five and will be keen to get back on the scoresheet after five games without a goal.

Goals have come from all over the field this season, however. Sarah Danby (4), Danielle Whitham (3) and Kathryn Smith (2) have provided goals from midfield whilst defender Olivia Smart has contributed three.
