Jess Rousseau: It\'s an opportunity I had to take

A first interview with our new arrival.

Leeds United Women’s latest signing Jess Rousseau has spoken exclusively to LUTV, after joining the Whites.

Th 19-year-old forward arrives from Lincoln City Women, who are flying high in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands, but Rousseau believed joining Leeds was a no brainer when it came to furthering her career in football.

“The move came about through Rick [Passmoor]," the forward explained.

"I think he’s been looking through the leagues, he put the request in for me and I had a chat with him.

“I had a look at what Leeds had to offer and decided it was an opportunity I had to take, to progress my career in football.

“I think the facilities, the coaching staff, the set-up, the strive to build up the leagues and go as far as we possibly can is something I definitely want to be part of.”

Jess’ goal-scoring capabilities is one of her biggest strengths and is one of the reasons she has caught the eye of Leeds.

So far this season, she has netted 12 goals in 14 games, which has her joint second in the Division One Midlands standings.

She is well on the way to bettering her tally of 15 from last season, but has set herself the target of doubling her figures before the end of the season after moving to the Whites.

Jess said: “I’m hoping that I’ll contribute here, help build on the attacking three and get a couple more goals and double my tally for the end of the season.

“I’m hoping to bring speed and strength, get at the back line, create opportunities and score a few goals.

“The girls are lovely and it’s a competitive squad, so I need to push myself to be the best I can and get myself in there.”

Rousseau could make her debut in the Whites’ next league fixture, which is at home to Norton & Stockton Ancients on Sunday 5th February, 2pm kick off at Tadcaster Albion’s So-Trak stadium.
