Whites face higher-league opposition in FA Cup

Leeds United Women are in FA Cup action this weekend, as they face Brighouse Town at the So-Trak Stadium in the First Round Proper.

The Whites qualified with an emphatic 5-1 victory at South Shields last month, whilst Brighouse are entering the competition at this stage.

Both sides come into the game after suffering defeats in the league last time out. Brighouse were beaten 2-0 by Wolves, extending their winless run in the Northern Premier Division to six games. Leeds lost 1-0 Durham Cestria, putting an end to a five-game unbeaten streak and 100% home record this season.

Supporter Information:

Please note, the game kicks off at an earlier kick-off time of 1pm, at Tadcaster Albion’s So-Trak Stadium: Ings Ln, Tadcaster, LS24 9AY.

Previous meetings:

Leeds and Brighouse met in last season’s 2021/22 West Riding County Cup final. Leeds rescued a 1-1 draw against their higher-league opposition thanks to Kathryn Smith’s 93rd minute penalty, but Brighouse went on to lift the trophy after winning on penalties.

Players to watch:

Leeds’ Danielle Whitham and faces the club that she left in the summer to join Leeds.

Following the departure of last season’s Northern Premier Division Golden Boot winner Leah Embley, Brighouse have struggled for goals in the early stages of the season, netting just 14 times in their opening 10 games. Drew Greene is their top scorer so far with three.

For Leeds, Abbie Brown leads the scoring charts with five goals. Sarah Danby, Olivia Smart and Amy Woodruff are all tied on three.

Goalkeeper Carrie Simpson made some fabulous saves in the defeat to Durham, she will have to be on top of her game again if Leeds are to cause a cup upset on Sunday.
