Leeds United Women are back on home turf this Wednesday, as they look to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat to Barnsley away from home.

Stockport County Ladies are the opposition (19:45 kick-off), the Lancashire side have one point from their opening two games after a 0-0 draw with Durham Cestria on the opening day was followed by a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Head-to-head

The two sides met three times last season, twice in the league and once in the League Cup.

Leeds came out on top on the opening day of the league season last August, Kirstie Hunt scoring late on to earn a 1-0 win. The Whites came out on top again when the teams met in the League Cup in November, with goals coming from Rebecca Hunt, Rebekah Bass and Abbie Brown in a 3-1 win.

The last meeting between the two, back in March, saw Stockport come out on top. Kanisha Underdown and Sarah Danby were on the scoresheet for Leeds but goals from Jess Battle, Maria Figueiredo, Emma Lysons and Olivia Dixon saw Leeds leave Edgeley Park empty handed.

Figueiredo was Stockport’s top scorer last season with 14 goals and will be keen to get off the mark on Wednesday, having failed to find the back of the net in her first two this season.

Rick Passmoor’s thoughts, ahead of the match:

Speaking after the Barnsley game, manager Rick Passmoor explained the benefit of having a quick turnaround after a defeat, and believes consistency will be the key for his side going forward.

He said: “You don’t have to dwell on [the defeat] too long, we’ll have training then a game on Wednesday and another game at the weekend so we’ve got too big games ahead,” he told LUTV.

“So all of a sudden this frustration can change very quickly, so its about keeping your emotions level, whether it’s after winning like last week against Hull or this week, but what we have got to make sure is that the range isn’t so great between the highs of last week to sometimes days like today, disappointment.

“We’ve got to make sure that each individual performs at six or seven out of ten and with that I’m sure we build on it and pick up results.”
