Preview: Barnsley Women\'s vs Leeds United Women

A look ahead to Sunday's action.

Leeds United Women face their first away trip of the season this Sunday, with Yorkshire rivals Barnsley the opposition.

The Whites are looking to kick on from their opening day victory over Hull City at the So-Trak Stadium in Tadcaster. Olivia Smart’s first half strike proved to be enough to give Rick Passmoor a winning start to his tenure in a well-contested Yorkshire derby to begin the campaign.

Supporter information

The game will take place at Wombwell Town Recreation Ground, Station Road, Wombwell, Barnsley, S73 0BJ. Kick-off 2pm.

For supporters wishing to attend, parking is available at the ground and entry prices are £4 for adults and £1 for concessions and children.

Head to head

Last season, Leeds did the double over Barnsley with 3-2 and 5-0 victories. The Reds went on to narrowly avoid relegation, finishing just one place and two points above the bottom three.

However, early signs suggest that Barnsley have made significant improvements under new boss Lois Daniels after her appointment this summer, and will provide another big test for Passmoor and his side this weekend.

A strong pre-season saw Barnsley win four out of six friendlies, scoring 22 goals in the process, including a 6-5 win over Northern Premier Division side Burnley. They took that form into the season opener last week as they kicked off with a comfortable 4-0 win over Chorley.

Player to watch: Jodie Michalska

The prolific, Sheffield-born forward formerly of Lincoln, Sheffield FC, Sheffield United and Derby County still found the net 12 times last season despite Barnsley’s struggles, and got off the mark last week with a powerful header.

Barnsley also have former Leeds winger Holly Findlay in their ranks after she joined the Reds from York City this summer. Findlay bagged 11 goals in 17 appearances for the Minster Belles last season as they cruised to promotion.
