Leeds produced a solid defensive performance to frustrate league leaders Liverpool Feds on Sunday afternoon, away from home in this FAWNL Division One North clash.

Leeds came into the game on the back of an impressive 6-0 win over Alnwick last time out, and took the game to Liverpool Feds early on at Jericho Lane.

Olivia Smart had her shot from 30-yards well held by Rachel Darbyshire in the Feds net, before both Kathryn Smith and Rebekah Bass fired wide.

Leeds kept the pressure on the league leaders with top scorer Laura Bartup volleying just over from the edge of the area before Bass struck wide from 25-yards.

The Whites then came close again when Katie Ramsden had her shot tipped round the post, before Amy Woodruff had her header cleared off the line from a superb Rachel Hindle cross.

There were to be no further chances before the interval which meant the teams went in level, in a first 45 minutes that Dan O’Hearne’s side had been on top in throughout.

HALF TIME: Liverpool Feds 0-0 Leeds United Women

The second period took a while to get going and it wasn't until the 57th minute that full-back Bass made a last ditch block to deny Demi Deveraux, in what was the best chance of the match so far for the Feds.

The game was then opening up with top-scorer Bartup having her low drive tipped away, before Georgia Wattam got down well to deny Deveraux at the opposite end.

Feds knew that one goal would clinch them the league title and in this second half they came out and were stronger, meaning the Whites had to be alert at the back, with captain Cath Hamill keeping a solid defensive line intact.

Goalkeeper, Wattam did brilliantly to tip over from substitute Paige Cole, before Leeds nearly won it at the other end when Abbie Brown's lob was held by a back-tracking Darbyshire.

The match ended without a goal having been scored, but the clash was entertaining throughout and the point was a fair result following the effort shown on either side.
