Leeds United Women put in a superb display at Elland Road, hitting three goals in each half to run out comfortable 6-0 winners in their final home league match of the season. Dan O’Hearne’s side were relentless in their search for goals and enjoyed an impressive afternoon.

The Whites got off to a perfect start at Elland Road in front a passionate crowd. Good work down the wing between Amy Woodruff and Olivia Smart created an opening for Sandra Soares-Martins at the back post, who crossed back across goal for Bartup to head home the opener!

O’Hearne’s side had the majority of the early possession on home turf and following the early goal they had relaxed, allowing them to dictate the tempo whilst playing neat intricate football.

Alnwick did create a clear-cut opening for themselves inside 25 minutes though, and should have been level in the match. Lucy McConnell raced through one-on-one, but when looking to finish the forward shot well over the bar.

One soon became two for Leeds, as top-scorer Bartup netted her second of the match. Smart was involved again down the wing, crossing into the middle for the forward to control and fire home to get her and United’s second of the game.

Just five minutes later, it was three! Again it was Bartup with a brilliant finish, completing her hat-trick by superbly volleying into the back of the net from a great run and cross from Woodruff this time.

As the first half clock kept ticking, the Whites kept up the pressure. Bartup - who was ever present in attack - went close again for Leeds, clipping the bar from Sarah Danby’s clever ball, whilst Abbie Brown forced Katy Stark into a good save to keep out her strike.

Up from central defence, the final chance of the half fell to Cath Hamill. The skipper rose highest to head at goal, only to see Stark save again, before the whistle went for the break.

HALF TIME: Leeds United Women 3-0 Alnwick Town Ladies

Coming out and beginning the second half how they had played in the first, the Whites were back scoring again within minutes of the restart.

Bridie Hannon played a searching ball over the top which Woodruff chased and forced a mistake from Stark in the Alnwick net, leaving an open goal for the striker to fire into and claim her first goal for the club.

Just a few minutes later, Bartup would be at it again! Another superb pinpoint cross from Smart created the chance, as Bartup rose highest in the box to head home her fourth and United’s fifth of the game.

Alnwick had been struggling to deal with Bartup all afternoon and she continued to cause problems, which this time saw the visitors be reduced to 10 players. After rounding the goalie, Stark brought Bartup and down and was sent-off for doing so, meaning Jessica Morrison had to go in goal for the remainder of the match.

Leeds manager O’Hearne made all five substitutions with the game seeming safe, bringing on Sarah Dobby, Kirstie Hunt, Savannah Robson, Paige Williams and Kanisha-Mae Underdown to finish the game.

With five minutes remaining at Elland Road and the points secure, Leeds kept pressing and searching for more. The latest to go close was Brown, who had two efforts go narrowly off target.

With three minutes to go, Brown did get the goal her play had deserved! She picked up the ball on the edge of the box, looked up and fired home via a slight deflection to make it six for the Whites!

The full-time whistle blew to finish what had been a brilliant and relentless performance from Leeds, in front of a strong crowd who had enjoyed a goal-fest at Elland Road.
