Kathryn Smith: We controlled the game and dominated

Forward on Redcar win.

Leeds United forward Kathryn Smith spoke to leedsunited.com following Sunday’s win over Redcar Town Ladies.

Smith chipped in with a goal and an assist as the Whites ran out 4-0 winners in Teesside.

The Whites will now progress to the Fourth Round and Smith was delighted with the victory.

“We’re really pleased,” said Smith.

“It’s a really good result, we controlled the game and dominated.

“It’s a really nice feeling to win away from home, especially when we’ve travelled so far, it will be a nice journey back, job done and onto the next round.

“When you come up to the North East it’s always tough, you know it is going to be a battle, nothing is going to be handed to you on a plate, you have to dig in and that is what we did.”

Smith’s first half goal was a spectacular one, with her volley finding the top corner to give Leeds a two-nil advantage.

She said: “It came off my shin actually!

“It’s my first goal, I played it to Sandra out on the wing and thought I need to get in the box and get on the end of it.

“I think I’m more pleased about the assist I got for Abbie in the second half though, it is all about the team performance though and it was an all around good win.

“I’m pleased with my own performance, but I played well because the team played well, so I’m really happy.

“The clean sheet was really important too, that is your basis for winning and hopefully we can build on this.”
