Dan O’Hearne: I’m pleased we’re through to the next round

Women’s head coach on FA Cup win.

Leeds United Women head coach Dan O’Hearne spoke to leedsunited.com following Sunday’s FA Cup win over Redcar Town Ladies.

The Whites produced an impressive performance in the North East, running out 4-0 winners.

Three quickfire goals in the latter stages of the first half put Leeds in control and O’Hearne was happy to progress to the Fourth Round.

“In the first 20 minutes we knew they would come out of the traps pretty well,” said O’Hearne.

“It was a bit of a battle that first 20 minutes, but we took control with the three goals and in the second half we managed it, winning one-nil, so it was a safe passage through.

“Fair play to Redcar, they made it difficult for us in the opening, they came out of the traps and tried to stop us playing.

“It was a bit scrappy if I’m honest, but once we got the goal and the two quickly afterwards, it was good.

“I’m pleased we’re through to the next round and that is the most important thing.”

O’Hearne also had praise for Izzy Elliot, with the full-back making her first-team debut in the win.

He said: “I was really pleased.

“Izzy has come out of the RTC and been playing for our Under-23s and we’ve been keeping our eye on her.

“We’ve got a few injuries in that position at the minute, so she stepped in today and didn’t let us down, she did brilliantly.

“It was good to keep a clean sheet, so I’m happy for the defence and goalkeeper as well.”
