Preview: Leeds United Women vs Durham Cestria LFC

Whites looking to continue fine form.

Leeds United Women are back in league action on Sunday afternoon, when they take on Durham Cestria LFC in the FA Women’s National League Division One North (2pm).

The Whites come into the match on the back of a comfortable victory last time out, where they defeated FC United of Manchester Women five-nil, at the Global Stadium in Tadcaster.

That win - and the amount of goals scored being the key - sent Dan O’Hearne’s side to the top of the table, overtaking Liverpool Feds on ‘Goals Scored’, with the two teams level on ‘Goal Difference’ of +13.

Both Feds and third placed Newcastle United have games in hand over Leeds, and if they were to win them, they would go ahead in the standings in a league that is proving to be a closely fought battle.

Sunday’s opponents are Durham Cestria, who currently sit in eighth spot. They also have games in hand over others, having won three out of only six matches played up to this point.

Two of those victories have been away from home, showing that the North East based outfit are comfortable on their travels.

Lee Sanders will want his side to bounce back on Sunday at the Global Stadium, having lost heavily against local rivals Newcastle on Sunday. That was only the second time the side haven’t found the net this season, with 11 netted in their five previous games.

Top scorer for Sunday’s visitors is Jordan Atkinson, she has four up to now. For the Whites, Laura Bartup continues to lead the way having now reached double figures for the season, which has included two mightily impressive hat-tricks so far.

There are no advanced ticket sales, with all fans wishing to attend able to purchase on the turnstiles at the Global Stadium in Tadcaster.

Fans not attending can keep up to date with live blog updates on leedsunited.com.

What has Dan O’Hearne said, ahead of the match?

“After seeing that they got beaten four-nil at Newcastle in their last game, they will definitely be coming to us looking for a response. Durham will be tough opposition and you can see from their results so far that they can get results away from home, so we have got to be on top of our game to beat them.”
