Cardiff City defender joins club in loan deal...

Tony Capaldi

Leeds United have signed Northern Ireland international Tony Capaldi.

The experienced 28-year-old has joined on loan from Cardiff City until Janaury 4, and will be available for Sunday's FA Cup second round trip to Kettering.

Capaldi, who was born in Norway, brings verstality and can play at either left back or on the left side of midfield.

"Tony is a good experienced left-sided player," said United manager Simon Grayson.

"He's a left-back, and with Hughesy picking up an injury on Tuesday, we are a little bit light in that area so Tony gives us a boost. He can also play on the left in midfield so there's options there.

"Again, he will provide us with some good quality competition at a busy time of the year which is what I was looking for."

Having started his career with Birmingham City, he has played much of his football in the Coca-Cola Championship.

He made over 150 appearances during a four-year stay at Plymouth Argyle and estbalished himself as an international while at Home Park.

Capaldi took the opportunity to join Cardiff during the summer of 2007 and has made 68 appearances for the Bluebirds.

A knee injury restricted his appearances last season, but he has featured nine times this term, most recently in the derby clash at Swansea at the start of the month.

Capaldi was a member of the Northern Ireland side which beat England in 2005 when Leeds United striker David Healy scored the decisive goal.
