INJURY UPDATE: ROSLER ON CHRIS WOOD

Head coach provides team news ahead of Saturday's game with Birmingham...

Uwe Rosler says striker Chris Wood is "improving" after missing out at Middlesbrough and will now be assessed ahead of Saturday’s Elland Road clash with Birmingham City.

Wood, United’s top goalscorer after finding the net on four occasions so far this season, was absent for last Sunday’s defeat at the Riverside Stadium through injury, with Mirco Antenucci replacing him in attack.

Rosler opted to remain guarded on the specifics of Wood’s issue but insists the summer signing from Leicester is nearing a return to action.

“We knew that Chris Wood was missing last week and he’s improving,” the head coach said. “We’ll see where he is tomorrow.

“I’ll pick the best team I can for the next game – that’s what I’ve always done.

“We’ve had a good week. It was without a midweek week game so there is no fatigue coming into it.”

Elsewhere, winger Will Buckley could be in line for his United debut as the 25-year-old’s loan move from Sunderland is set to be finalised on Friday.

Asked if Buckley is in his plans for Saturday, Rosler said: “Definitely, he’s competing for a place.

“He brings experience in the Championship and experience of playing for a team who challenge at the top of the Championship.

“He brings pace, directness, goal-threat and he’s a good lad. He’s perfectly suited to our squad.”
