NO APPEAL AGAINST BILL'S RED CARD

NO APPEAL AGAINST BILL\'S RED CARD

Club statement...

Billy Paynter is sent off at Sheff U

Leeds United will not be appealing the red card given to Billy Paynter during Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United.

The club have reviewed the DVD footage which, due to the one-camera coverage provided at Bramall Lane, is inconclusive and does not show the alleged incident clearly.

On this basis, the club feel the FA would favour the evidence of the assistant referee.

Referee Michael Jones confirmed in his report that the player had been sent-off for a head-butt that he hadn't seen, but his assistant had.

Billy maintains his innocence.

The club have approached Sheffield United's Shane Lowry who has declined to provide a statement in defence of Billy.

Billy will now miss the games against Nottingham Forest, Millwall, and Derby County.

Manager Simon Grayson said: "I'm disappointed that Billy will miss three games, but I'm confident in the players we have here."
