United midfielder Adam Clayton has joined MK Dons on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old's move to MK includes provision for him to remain with the club if they reach the end of season Play-Offs, although there is a 24-hour recall clause after the first 28 days.

Speaking earlier this week, Adam said he was open to the prospect of a loan move and he now has the opportunity to play a part in MK's bid for promotion from League One.

MK Dons strengthened their position on Monday by beating fellow challengers Peterborough, a club where Clayton spent time on loan earlier this season.

United manager Simon Grayson said: "This is a great opportunity for Adam to finish the season playing good, competitive games, and it can only be of benefit to both him and us.

"Opportunities have been limited for him this season, but he is a young player we have high hopes for, and this loan period is ideal for everyone."
