LEEDS DECISION WAS \'NO BRAINER\' FOR ANDROS

Loan man delighted to be at Elland Road...

Andros Townsend against Burnley

New loan signing Andros Townsend admits it was "a no-brainer" when he heard of Simon Grayson's interest in bringing him to Elland Road.

The Tottenham youngster was linked with the club last week and United moved quickly to secure his signature on January 1 in the wake of the New Year's Eve defeat at Barnsley.

"There were a few options, but Leeds United is a massive club and I couldn't turn it down," said Andros, who has made seven appearances for Spurs this season, in both the Europa League and the Carling Cup.

"Only a few years ago Leeds were in the Champions League and I've played here before and the fans are amazing so it's a no-brainer to come here really.

"Anyone can take the easy life, being around the squad at Tottenham, but I want to be playing regularly and hopefully I'll do that here at Leeds."

Andros wasted little time in making an impression on his debut with a terrific display on the left-flank. His performance was capped off when Lee Grant could only parry his shot from distance and Ross McCormack was able to poke home the winning goal against Burnley.

"After 80 minutes I thought it was going to be one of those days, but the two goals just topped off what was a dream debut to be honest," said Andros. "It doesn't get much better than that. It sums up what this club is all about.

"I didn't know the lads really before I came here, but I slotted straight in. I had Aidan White behind me who is a terrific player.

"It was the first time we'd played together and we seemed to have a good partnership. Hopefully that will get better as we have more games."

Monday's 2-1 win against Burnley was United's first since Millwall were beaten at Elland Road a month ago, and the victory lifted Leeds back up to within touching distance of the Play-Off places.

Andros has joined on loan until the end of the season and he is hoping to play his part in the surge of promotion.

"Hopefully I can help this club get back to where it belongs," he said. "We'll try and win as many games as we can and get in the Play-Offs or hopefully go up automatically.

"We have to take it one step at a time. They'd lost a few games when I came in, so it's a case of steadying the ship again and getting a few wins under our belts.

"Everyone was down in the dumps when I arrived - we watched the DVD of the Barnsley game and it wasn't good - but we put the wrongs right on Monday and the crowd were right behind us."

After the euphoria of his debut, Andros is now relishing the prospect of locking horns with Tottenham's arch-rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup third round at the Emirates on Monday.

"I'm looking forward to it and I'll be trying my hardest to put one over on them," he added.
