COMBINE FOOTBALL WITH STUDIES

COMBINE FOOTBALL WITH STUDIES

Follow in the footsteps of Aidy White and Tom Lees...

Foundation Boston-Spa-360Boston Spa School have strengthened their partnership with The Leeds United Foundation with the introduction of a new course.

The Leeds United Foundation Football Development Centre at Boston Spa School offers both football training and academic qualifications specifically for males and females aged between 16-19 years old.

Students can combine full-time study with a football training schedule and the chance to represent The Leeds United Foundation within the college league.

Gary Waddington, Football Development Officer for The Leeds United Foundation said: "Each player is encouraged to achieve their ambitions both in the classroom and on the pitch and with this in mind we have introduced the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sports (Performance & Excellence).

"This course not only covers the study of sports nutrition, sports performance analysis and anatomy and physiology in sport, it also gives students the opportunity to organise events and relevant experience in sports teaching which is crucial for future employment."

PE Teacher, FA Tutor and FDC Director Mark Swales believes that there are many benefits and pathways leading on from success on the course. It offers students a fully recognised qualification for UCAS applications and gives an insight into the football and sports industry which supports young people in making the right decisions. The Football Development Centre also gives students the opportunity to gain FA Coaching qualifications and Sports Leaders Awards which develop their skills and enhance their career potential.

The school's partnership with The Leeds United Foundation has seen England Football players James Milner, Fabian Delph and Sophie Walton study at the school, as well as current Leeds United first team players Aidan White and Tom Lees.

The school are holding trials on Saturday 17th March, for more information on the new course please contact Gary Waddington on 07802 834 390 or email gary.waddington@leedsunited.com
