PROFESSIONAL DEAL FOR YOUNGSTER VANN

PROFESSIONAL DEAL FOR YOUNGSTER VANN

Centre-back agrees professional terms with the club...

Defender Jack Vann is the latest youngster to agree his first professional contract with the club upon the completion of his two-year Academy scholarship.

Vann, a tough-tackling centre-back, put pen to paper at Elland Road following a season which ended with a combined total of 40 appearances for United’s youth teams.

The 18-year-old, who first joined the club as a schoolboy in 2006, featured 25 times for our Under-21s last term on top of 15 games for the Under-18s.

Vann has signed a one-year deal with United and hopes to continue his development over the course of the new season after turning professional.

“I’m very proud,” he told leedsunited.com. “I’ve been here for 10 years now and it’s what I’ve been aiming for – it’s a great achievement for me and I just want to keep progressing now.

“Next season I’m looking to get some solid game time and play week-in, week-out, but the aim is always to get near to the first team and be around them in training.

“We’ve had quite a lot of players progress through the Academy and that gives us hope that it could be our time soon.

“I enjoy it here and I want to continue progressing as a player. I’ve been coached by some great people.

“I’ve got another year, so we’ll see what happens.”

Asked about his style of play, Vann added: “I’d probably describe myself as quite an old-fashioned defender – I like to head it a lot and put in tough tackles. Hopefully, I can be a bit of a ball player as well.”
