YOUNG KEEPER EXTENDS UNITED STAY

Bailey Peacock-Farrell agrees new two-year deal at Elland Road...

United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has committed his future to the club by signing a new two-year deal at Elland Road.

The 19-year-old, who progressed through the ranks at Thorp Arch to make his senior debut last season, put pen to paper on Wednesday evening after being offered fresh terms earlier this summer.

Peacock-Farrell, a 2013 arrival from Middlesbrough, signed his first professional contract with the club this time last year and soon found himself within the first-team fold as United’s back-up ‘keeper for the majority of the last campaign.

The youngster, who remained a regular with our Under-21s last term, stepped up to make his Championship bow in April’s 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road.

Peacock-Farrell, replacing the suspended Marco Silvestri, put in an assured display between the sticks and was beaten only by Tjaronn Chery’s unstoppable late penalty as the visitors snatched a share of the spoils.

Peacock-Farrell’s deal was set to expire this summer but, despite much speculation surrounding his future, the highly-rated stopper has penned a new contract to keep him at United until at least 2018.

“I’m delighted to commit my future to Leeds for another two years,” Peacock-Farrell told leedsunited.com.

“It’s a massive club and it’s a great privilege to be a part of it moving forward.

“I was never in doubt about where I wanted to be or where my future lies. It was just about getting the final pieces sorted - now it’s all done.

“I had a great season and hopefully I can build on that and keep making steps forward under the new manager.

“Being with the first-team, not only for training but also for travelling and being a part of it, has been a great experience.

“All you can ask for is the opportunity to impress. If I get that, then hopefully I’ll be able to take it. I feel ready and hopefully I’ll get a chance.”

Upon his arrival at Elland Road to sign his new deal, Peacock-Farrell was greeted by Garry Monk, with the new head coach busy at the stadium laying down plans for the season ahead.

“We’ve got a new manager in and he’s a big name,” the young goalkeeper said. “He’ll bring his own views and takes on progressing the team and taking steps forward. It will be great to be a part of it.

“It was a nice touch for him to come down and take the time out to come and say ‘hello’. It’s great to have that.

“Now that he’s in, we can prepare for pre-season and where we’re going to go. He can do his own thing regarding players and hopefully things will start to move forward now.”
