Leeds United suffered defeat against West Ham United in their final away match of the Premier League season. Despite taking the lead midway through the first half, the home side came from behind to take the points.

When the match began at the London Stadium, Leeds were the first team to create chances. After Rodrigo had an early opportunity, it was Jack Harrison who forced the first save after volleying Luke Ayling’s cross, only to see Lukasz Fabianski keep the effort out.

Leeds remained on top and after having plenty of possession and attacking opportunities, they took the lead in the 17th minute with Rodrigo scoring his 13th goal of the season.

Weston McKennie was the creator of the goal, with a long throw-in into the box which was perfectly positioned for the Spaniard to run on to, and strike home a first-time volley into the top corner.

The hosts looked to hit back and respond to going behind. Declan Rice curled an effort just off target from the edge of the box, before Ayling blocked a second effort from the midfielder, with Joel Robles then called into action when he denied Tomas Soucek at close range.

West Ham did equalise in the 32nd minute. It was Rice who found the back of the net, striking home first time after he was in space at the back of the penalty area to volley home Jarrod Bowen’s cross.

Following the goal, Allardyce had to make his first change of the match, an enforced one as Patrick Bamford was replaced by Willy Gnonto in the forward area.

Final chances did arrive before the break, at each end. Robin Koch had a header saved by Fabianski shortly before Harrison struck wide from Rodrigo’s pull-back.

After Lucas Paqueta had a chance of his own at the other end in four minutes of added on time, the whistle blew to signal the break just after the Brazilian’s volley had gone over the bar.

HALF TIME: West Ham United 1-1 Leeds United

Out for the second half, David Moyes made a change of his own with Thilo Kehrer coming on from the bench, replacing Kurt Zouma in the defence.

It was the home side to started the better after the break and had the first opening of the second half. Paqueta was in space just outside the box and received the ball, striking first time at goal, only to see Robles dive to his right and palm the effort away.

West Ham remained on top until the hour mark in the match and had forced Robles into further saves. Leeds reacted by making changes, bringing on Crysencio Summerville and Brenden Aaronson to replace Harrison and Adam Forshaw.

The home side got their second goal of the game in the 72nd minute. Danny Ings played the ball in behind the Leeds defence for Bowen, who stabbed towards goal and despite Robles getting a touch, it found the back of the net off the inside of the post.

Further changes had been made from each bench as the game edged towards its conclusion. Leeds were pushing everyone forward with seven minutes of stoppage time added, however, West Ham would get a third.

Paqueta cut in from the wing, showing good footwork to get into the box. He then pulled it back for Manuel Lanzini, fresh from the bench, to slot home at close range and seal the win for his side.
