Leeds United have seen a number of players away on international duty over the break, representing a number of different nations. 

The players have played in various competitions as well as friendlies over the last week or so. We take a look below at how our players in the senior squads got on over the break. 

Brenden Aaronson & Weston McKennie - USA

In their first match, the midfielder pair travelled to Grenada for a CONCACAF Nations League Group D clash. The Stars and Stripes were in control early on and ran out winners with a huge 7-1 scoreline. Both Leeds United players were on the scoresheet, too! Brenden Aaronson found the net in the 20th minute, whilst Weston McKennie scored a three-minute brace, in the 31st and 34th.

In their second match of the break, the USA were back on home turf, facing El Salvador in their final group match at the Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida. McKennie added to his goal involvements, by providing the assist for the winning goal in a 1-0 win! Aaronson played 30 minutes in the match, coming on when the scores were level before helping his side to win the game.

Liam Cooper - Scotland

The skipper was called up to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for their opening UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers. The Tartan Army began in winning fashion, beating Cryprus 3-0 in Group A. Cooper was an unused substitute for the match. 

Next up for Cooper’s side was a tough test at home to Spain, which they overcame with a superb 2-0 victory. The Scot’s were two goals up when the Leeds United captain was brought on in the game, and he helped to keep the clean sheet and secure the three points, putting his body on the line to deny the Spanish attack late in the game!

Rasmus Kristensen - Denmark

The Danes got an opening win of their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying campaign. They beat Finland 3-1 at home, but Rasmus Kristensen was an unused substitute in the match. Kristensen was also on the bench at the beginning of the second encounter, away at Kazakhstan. The defender came on in the final 10 minutes for his country, but they didn’t get the result they would have wanted after a 3-2 defeat in Group H. 

Willy Gnonto - Italy

The forward has been in fine form this season and was called up to another of Roberto Mancini’s Italian squads. Their opening match was at home to England at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Gnonto came off the bench in the 69th minute with his team losing, and created plenty of opportunities for his teammates but they couldn’t come back as the Three Lions claimed the points.

Willy’s next match was away at Malta, where unfortunately he had to come off early after initially starting the match. His nation did pick up the three points with a 2-0 win.

Max Wober - Austria 

Austria began their Euro 2024 qualifiers on home turf against Azerbaijan with a convincing 4-1 victory. Max Wober was selected to start the match, but had to be replaced after 34 minutes.
