England Name Five Leeds United Players in Young Lion Squads

Joseph, Cresswell, Gyabi, Perkins and Debayo called up

England named their youth squads for the upcoming international break on Friday, with five Leeds United players earning call ups.

England U20s

Ahead of their March fixtures, England U20s head coach Ian Foster has handed Mateo Joseph a place in his 22 man squad.

Joseph has impressed for Leeds United's U21s this season, scoring 14 goals in 18 games, before being rewarded with five appearances for the first team, across the league and cups.

Fans have the opportunity to see some of the most exciting young players in the country when England's U20s take on Germany at the Manchester City Academy Stadium on Wednesday 22 March (7.30pm GMT kick-off).

Foster's squad will then head to the Marbella Football Centre in Spain to take on the USA (Saturday 25 March) and France (Tuesday 28 March) as preparation for this summer’s tournament ramps up.

England U19s

Darko Gyabi and Sonny Perkins

Simon Rusk also named his England U19s squad on Friday morning, with Academy duo Darko Gyabi and Sonny Perkins included within the squad.

Gyabi, who made his Premier League debut against his former side Man City in December, has also featured 14 times for Leeds United's U21s this season, scoring against Nottingham Forest and West Brom.

Perkins has also been electric form for the club's U21s this season, scoring 8 goals in his 14 appearances. That led to the forward making his debut in the EFL Cup against Wolves in November, before being brought on against Cardiff City in the FA Cup, where his four minute cameo yielded an equaliser that extended Leeds' run in the competition.

The Young Lions will face opposition from Hungary (Wednesday 22 March, Bescot Stadium, Walsall), Iceland (Saturday 25th March, New York Stadium, Rotherham) and Turkey (Tuesday 28th March, Technique Stadium, Chesterfield), with the team who tops the group after three games sealing their spot in July’s U19 Euro Finals.

England U18s

James Debayo

James Debayo has been included in England's U18s squad for their international fixtures this month.

The defender has broken into the U21s side this season, making nine appearances and helping Leeds top the PL2 table this season.

Neil Ryan's Young Lions will play three matches during their week-long stay in Croatia, starting with a game against the hosts on Wednesday 22 March.

Belgium will be next up on Friday 24 March, before the trip is concluded against Switzerland on Monday 27 March.

England U21s

Charlie Cresswell

Charlie Cresswell is the fifth Leeds United player to be called upto England, as he retains his place in Lee Carsley's U21s squad to face fellow EURO finalists France and Croatia in March’s international window.

Cresswell, out on loan with Millwall, has impressed in the Championship, racking up over 2,200 minutes across 28 appearances. The defender has also notched five goals for The Lions, most recently grabbing the opening goal in the 2-1 win over Swansea.

The Young Lions will head to Leicester City’s King Power Stadium to play France on Saturday 25 March, before they grace another Premier League venue in Fulham’s Craven Cottage when Croatia are the visitors on Tuesday 28 March.
