Leeds United complete Weston McKennie deal

Midfielder joins the Whites.

Leeds United are delighted to announce the signing of Weston McKennie on loan until the end of the 2022/23 season, subject to a work permit.

The 24-year-old midfielder joins the Whites from Italian Serie A side Juventus, with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season.

A USA international, with 41 caps to his name, McKennie played alongside Leeds duo Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, helping his country reach the last 16.

Coming through the youth ranks with Major League Soccer side FC Dallas, McKennie attracted the attention of FC Schalke 04 and was snapped up by the Bundesliga side in the summer of 2016.

He went on to make a total of 91 appearances for the German outfit, before being signed by Juventus on loan for the 2020/21 season, at the end of which, the deal was made permanent.

During his time at the Allianz Stadium, McKennie won his first club honours, helping the Old Lady to victory in the Supercoppa Italiana in 2020 and the Coppa Italia in 2021.

He departs Turin having played 96 times, during which he scored 13 goals and provided five assists in all competitions.

He becomes Leeds’ third signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of Geroginio Rutter and Max Wober.

McKennie has been handed the number 28 shirt and could make his debut in Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
