Preview: Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Leeds United

Carabao Cup action at Molineux.

Leeds United will face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday evening, in Round Three of the 2022/23 Carabao Cup (7:45pm).

This will be a first ever meeting between the two sides in this competition, but a second encounter so far this season, after the Whites beat their upcoming opponents at Elland Road on the first day of the Premier League season.

Getting to this stage of the competition was relatively straight forward for both clubs. A 3-1 home win over League One side Barnsley at Elland Road saw Leeds safely through, whilst Wolves overcame Championship opposition Preston North End at Molineux.

Jesse Marsch’s side come into the match on the back of two Premier League victories, overcoming Liverpool away from home, before following that up with Saturday’s thrilling 4-3 win against AFC Bournemouth on home turf.

Wolves are winless in their last four and have had a tough start to the season. Currently in caretaker charge of the side is Steve Davis, who stepped up from his role as Under-18s head coach following the departure of Bruno Lage.

A new appointment has now been made at Molineux though, with Julen Lopetegui set to take charge of the club. The former Spain, Real Madrid, Porto and Sevilla manager will take control during the World Cup break.

After scoring again at the weekend, Rodrigo how has seven goals so far this season. The recent form of Crysencio Summerville has seen him net three times in three matches, with two of them being winning goals as well.

The goal charts for Wolves see Ruben Neves currently topping the charts, he has four. Adama Traore has two, level with Daniel Podence, who scored against Leeds at Elland Road on the opening day.

The match has not been selected for television broadcast coverage within the United Kingdom. You can follow live updates right here on leedsunited.com, or alternatively tune into LUTV for uninterrupted commentary throughout the 90 minutes.
