Leeds United came from behind to claim a point under the lights of Elland Road, with a second half Luis Sinisterra strike cancelling out Anthony Gordon’s first half opener.

Coming into the match, the Whites were returning to home soil after losing last time out away from home against Brighton & Hove Albion. That match was a first defeat of the season for Jesse Marsch’s side, who had started productively with two wins and a draw from their first three games prior to that loss.

Frank Lampard’s Everton side arrived at Elland Road looking for their first win of the campaign. Back-to-back draws against Brentford and Nottingham Forest followed on from defeats against both Chelsea and Aston Villa.

The opening period to the game would begin as a quiet one, with very little happening at either end of the pitch in terms of chances. However, when one did arrive, it brought about the first goal of the game.

Gordon was the scorer for the visitors, finishing well underneath the legs of Illan Meslier to put his side ahead when racing through into the box, after collecting a clever pass from Alex Iwobi.

Shortly after going behind, the Whites would be forced into a change. Captain and top-scorer Rodrigo would leave the pitch after picking up an injury, to be replaced by Joe Gelhardt in attack.

For all the possession Leeds had in the first half, they were struggling to create any chances of note against an Everton side who were enjoying protecting their one-goal advantage, going into the half-time interval.

HALF TIME: Leeds United 0-1 Everton

Leeds came out in the second half looking to get level from the get-go. Jack Harrison linked up well with Brenden Aaronson, who struck powerfully at goal, forcing Jordan Pickford to make his first good save of the night.

A couple of minutes later and Pickford would be forced into action again. This time Sinisterra’s low ball across the box was met by Harrison who shot on target, only to see the stopper save his effort.

Just 10 minutes into the half and after constant pressure from the Whites, the equaliser did arrive! Sinisterra - on his first Premier League start - cut in from the right and struck superbly into the bottom corner to find the back of the net, this time giving Pickford no chance.

Everton were then the next team to threaten, as Dwight McNeil shot narrowly past Meslier’s left-hand-post. Seconds after, Demarai Gray found the back of the net but the flag was rightly up to disallow the goal for offside.

Continuing a strong second half performance, Pickford would once again pull off a fine save to deny Leeds taking the lead. Gelhardt had been played into the area by Matuesz Klich and the forward struck low, seeing the ‘keeper save well with his feet this time.

With 15 minutes to go at Elland Road, Marsch would make a double change in attacking areas. Patrick Bamford and Dan James were brought into the attack, replacing Gelhardt and Aaronson.

A superb piece of defending from Rasmus Kristensen would stop an almost-certain goal for away side, as the game edged into the final 10 minutes. The ball fell to Amadou Onana from a corner and he struck at goal, only to see the defender get his head in the way to block the chance.

The Toffees would then have another big chance to get a winner, but like at the opposite end, they saw a ‘keeper make an excellent save. This time it was Nathan Patterson who was free in the box to strike at goal, but Meslier would be there to deny the defender's attempt.

Despite the best efforts of both teams trying to win the game in the final few minutes, neither side could find a second goal of the match, meaning the clash ended level.
