Jesse Marsch: We know we have even more potential

Head coach reflects on Southampton draw.

Jesse Marsch gave his thoughts to LUTV after seeing his side draw 2-2 away at Southampton.

Rodrigo had put the Whites into a two-goal lead, before the hosts hit back late in the second half to take a point at St Mary’s.

Speaking after the match, the Leeds United head coach gave his thoughts on what he had seen from the touchline after seeing his side come away with a point on the road.

“I think most of the performance earned us more than that,” Marsch stated.

“But, you need total performances in this league, we’re still young and developing as a group.

“I look at decisions I made and how I could have helped the game, but in total I think we had a lot of good individual performances, we’re clearer and clearer with the playing model of what we want to see.

“We know we have even more potential, so, you can look at it half empty or half full, I always look at half full and know that we’re starting to come together in an amazing way.

“There is still so much more room for improvement.”

Discussing the opposition and tactical battles within the game, Marsch praised his counterpart in the opposite dugout whilst also giving insight into his own team.

He said: “I give credit to Ralph Hassenhuttl. He changed to four at the back and then he tried to push the game with more players up front.

“At that point, they had nothing to lose, they got the goal in that moment and it changes momentum.

“We tried to move to five at the back and for me when we’re playing five at the back we should never get beaten on the ball we get beaten on, that cost us.

“It’s disappointing that we made a couple of mistakes that really cost us, but overall, really good performances and I thought we pushed the game in a good way.

“We were good with the ball, good against the ball and good in set-piece phases. So, more work to do, but feeling positive about the potential of what we can become.”
