Joe Gelhardt signs long-term contract at Leeds United

Forward commits his future to the Whites.

Leeds United are delighted to announce that Joe Gelhardt has committed his future to the Whites by signing a new and long-term contract, until the summer of 2027.

The 20-year-old has excited supporters since his arrival in the summer of 2020, with his quck feet allowing him to dribble past defences and create chances in attack, as well as scoring them.

After a prolific time in the Under-23s, Gelhardt was given an opportunity in the first team and memorably won a 90th minute penalty against Wolves at Elland Road to claim a vital point in just his second appearance.

Continuing to impress, Joffy scored his first Premier League goal away at Chelsea in December with a trademark clever finish.

Plenty more first team opportunities followed for the youngster and none were more memorable than the 90th minute winner against Norwich City at Elland Road, to secure such an important three points.

Showing a desire and willingness to fight until the very last second of any match, Gelhardt delighted everyone watching in the final home game of the season, with a stunning assist for Pascal Struijk’s last-gasp header against Brighton & Hove Albion which would prove to be vital in the club’s battle to stay in the top-flight.

Overall, Gelhardt has played 22 times in the first team for Leeds United and has had a productive pre-season, scoring during the club’s tour of Australia.

He will now continue to form an important part of Jesse Marsch’s first team plans as the club begin their 2022/23 Premier League campaign at home to Wolves this weekend.

Director of Football Victor Orta said: “Re-signing Joe is an important moment for us this summer. He is the kind of player that can change games, and the fans know this too.

“We’ve already seen some magical moments from him last season, none more so than the assist for Pascal’s goal in the last minute against Brighton, or his goal against Norwich. We believe that Joe can go on and have an amazing career and we are delighted that he’s committed his long-term future to us.”
