Kalvin Phillips: It’s an amazing feeling

Midfielder on keeping the Whites up.

Kalvin Phillips gave his thoughts to the media after playing a key role in Leeds United securing their Premier League safety.

The final day win over Brentford was enough to ensure the Whites would play Premier League football again in the 2022/23 campaign.

Speaking straight after the match, the Leeds-born midfielder tried to summarise the match and the season as a whole.

“I can’t really describe the moment in the dressing room, we all just got in there together and the manager did a little speech,” Phillips explained.

“Nobody from the outside knows how difficult it has been this season. To come through on the last day to get the result at Brentford is an amazing feeling.

“It’s my home town club and to help to keep us up on the last day is an amazing feeling.

“We knew we just had to stick to our plan and we knew that we always wanted to come here and give ourselves an opportunity to stay up, and we did that in the last minute.”

Phillips had special praise for the two goalscorers on the day, Raphinha and Jack Harrison, who ultimately found the net to secure safety for the team.

He said: “Rapha has been unbelievable ever since has has come through the door.

“He has had a lot of critics over the last few months, but his attitude and the way he’s stuck at it, he’s been unbelievable.

“So has Jack, he is just one of those players who never rests. He always wants to be working on himself, he always wants to do extra to make himself better.

“There’s nobody else that deserves it more than Jack today.”
