Jesse Marsch: To get the three points was really important

Head coach on Watford victory.

Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch gave his assessment after the Whites defeated Watford at Vicarage Road 3-0.

Goals from Raphinha, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison secured Leeds a vital three points in the Premier League.

The win means Marsch’s side are now unbeaten in the last four matches and he was pleased to have secured another victory.

“I don’t think it was our best performance since I have been here, but we knew it was going to be a fight and it was a proper relegation fight, so the points were very important to us,” said Marsch.

“I thought we defended very well in a lot of moments, especially in one-v-one situations and then we were able to turn some advantages into goals.

“We’re still working on a lot of our little things, but certainly to get the three points and to see the confidence of the group was really important.

“The pitch was fast and the game was fast at times and a little bit hectic and we couldn’t seem to calm it down, but Raphinha scoring the goal was really important for us to get the lead.

“We had to defend a lot of set-pieces and Watford were dangerous in those moments, but the lead was important and we then stayed disciplined throughout.

“We haven’t turned one goal leads into two goal leads enough, so previously we’ve been stuck in tight matches at the end, so I wanted us to concentrate and get the clean sheet as we haven’t done that in a while and it will give our defensive group confidence.

“We’ll now use these two weeks to continue to move forward, get players healthy and fit and be ready for the next matches to keep pushing.”
