Marcelo Bielsa: They were very efficient

Head coach reflects on the game.

Marcelo Bielsa has given his thoughts to the media, after his Leeds United side lost to Manchester United at Elland Road.

The head coach saw his team battled back from two goals behind at the interval, only for the visitors to then net a further two of their own to take the three points.

Speaking after the match, he assessed the game.

“The effort the team made you can evaluate,” Bielsa explained.

“The relationship between what is produced and what you get is enormous in football. Evidently, we have conceded a lot of goals. The amount of goals conceded is not linked to individualities defensively.

“In the second half we had to put Pascal back in the defensive line due to the absence of three players who can do that function. That had an influence in the defensive behaviour of the team today.

“That also is not an explanation because we have conceded 50 goals in the league. I am just commenting on the game today.”

Bielsa was then asked about the reaction his side showed in the second half. The Whites came out fighting and battled from two goals behind to level the game.

He said: “The game has numerous components.

“The fight indicates commitment, it’s indispensable to construct a performance. Other elements complete this.

“We missed a very clear chance to make it 3-2 and in the response of that play they went down the other end and scored.

“Either way, the general transmit of the game, they missed very few chances and they were very efficient.

“We were less efficient and the difference comes through that. We had seven or eight chances to score a goal just like the opponent, but they scored in a higher proportion and us not in the same proportion.”
