Dan James: I have to keep making those runs

Forward reflects on two goals against Villa.

Dan James chatted with the media after his two first half goals helped the Whites to a more than deserved point at Villa Park.

After opening the scoring inside 10 minutes, James then found a vital goal just before the interval to reduce the deficit, before Leeds got their leveller through Diego Llorente in the second half.

Speaking after the 3-3 draw, James was pleased with the point against tough opposition.

He said: “It was important to score that goal just before half time to give us that lift to go into the second half.

“I think second half we came out and played really well. We’re a little bit disappointed not to get all three, but it’s a point away from home against tough opposition.

“It was a great start for us, we were disappointed to then concede three in the first half and all very similar goals.

“But we fought back and we got that point. After the red card towards the end we controlled it a bit more but I thought we played well today.”

On the goals, a really nice finish across goal from the forward was his first, before leaping above two towering defenders saw the Welsh international score a header for his second.

James explained his goals, saying: “Rodrigo played the ball [for the first goal] and I just thought touch and hit it, thankfully it went into the bottom corner.

“The gaffer keeps telling me to get in these positions, so if you’re not there you don’t score.

“[For the second] I tried to head it and I think obviously I’ve gone up and he’s gone up with me, so his push meant it hit my head on the way down. I’ll take it all day!

“We spoke about it the other day, I want to score more goals and get more assists, I have to keep believing and making those runs.

“I’ve got two today but I need to keep pushing and keeping making the runs.”
