Marcelo Bielsa: Every game that we play is important

Head coach discusses Burnley fixture.

Marcelo Bielsa has spoken with the media to preview Sunday’s Premier League match against Burnley.

The Whites will take on the Clarets at Elland Road in the first outing of 2022 for both teams, in what will be a battle between two sides close to one another in the league table.

Speaking a couple of days ahead of kick-off, the Leeds United head coach gave a current update on the players available to him for selection.

He said: “We have recovered Junior Firpo, Dan James, Diego Llorente and Robin Koch had already returned.

“Jack Harrison, who basically in the last game didn’t play as he picked up an injury as soon as the game started, has also recovered.

“This is the fourth week since Patrick Bamford’s injury. Patrick is healthy but he hasn’t played for four weeks now, so it’s about the convenience of him playing without having done any football training sessions.”

Bielsa was asked about the importance of the crowd inside Elland Road, who have shown constant support for their side, whatever the score may be.

“I think the support the Leeds fans have for the team is unconditional,” he explained.

“It’s not common in these times to conserve that recognition from the fans, even when the team is losing.

“Every time we have played at home, the public has always been an element that improves and pushes on the team to be in a better state and mood.”

The head coach then discussed the match itself, saying that every game would be important from this point until the end of the season.

"Every game that we play from here on out is important,” Bielsa stated.

“The ones we have played beforehand are the ones that position us where we are, and the game on Sunday is a great opportunity to redirect where the campaign is going.

“Burnley is a team that is very stable, with few incorporations that are new.

“I’m referring to the fact the base of their team is pretty much always the same and their way of playing is very installed in the team and very incorporated.

“As a result, we don’t imagine a different type of game to the one we played against them previously, as last season and in this season, the characteristics are the same and the difficulties are the same.”
