Joe Gelhardt: I have learnt so much in a year of being here

Forward reacts after first Premier League start.

Joe Gelhardt chatted with the media after playing for Leeds United away at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

The forward was given the opportunity to start his first Premier League match and impressed throughout, despite the defeat in North London.

Speaking after the game, Joffy gave his thoughts on how the 90 minutes went.

He said: “I think we were unlucky with the result. First half we were very good, and second half I think we just couldn’t soak up the pressure.

“I think they came out in the second half raring to go and put pressure on us, making it difficult for us to press them.

“So, we were sort of pinned in, couldn’t really get out and they just took advantage of that.

“I think in the start of the second half we had good chances, I had a couple that I could have put away.

“But that’s football, we’ll be looking to work hard and go again next week.”

After impressing with the Under-23s since his arrival last summer and now making a mark on the first team, the 19-year-old feels he has learnt a huge amount in the last 12 months or so.

“It was a very good experience personally to make my full Premier League debut, starting at this stadium,” Gelhardt explained.

“It was hard in the first 20 minutes to get used to the pace of the game.

“It was my first time starting in the Premier League but I think after that I saw it as a normal game of football that I have been doing all my life.

“It is hard being in this team with the physical demands, but once you’ve been training like that for a year and a bit, your body adapts.

“I have learnt so much in a year of being here, the intensity of training, the amount of technical and tactical information.

“Marcelo Bielsa has been very good to work under and you learn a lot from him.”
