Marcelo Bielsa: Teams change frequently

Head coach ahead of Wolves clash.

Marcelo Bielsa has spoken with the media prior to his side taking on Wolves in the Premier League at Elland Road, this weekend.

The Leeds United head coach reflected on a hard week of training after the loss at Southampton, whilst also giving an in-depth injury update on his squad.

Bielsa said: “Kalvin Phillips is healthy, but he hasn’t competed for three weeks.

“If he played on Saturday it would be far too quick after three weeks out, it is necessary for some more football training.

“Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford are not going to be here for the next two games.

“Junior Firpo is evolving quickly and well, I couldn’t tell you exactly how long he has left, but the next two games no. From Norwich onwards he has chances of being back in the team.

“Raphinha is back, he’s acclimatised back on his return to England.

“Robin Koch still has at least one month to go.”

Wolves come to West Yorkshire in good form, after previously having a tough start to the season. Bielsa was asked about the challenge his side will face on Saturday.

“There is a phrase that I read not too long ago that says that teams are made out of crystal,” he explained.

“It is difficult to make them solid, but they break from one day to another. So we played our best game of the season against Watford, and the worst against Southampton.

“More than whether the opponents were better or worse, teams change frequently.

“What is it that allows the loss of form for a team to recover quickly, the amount of work that has accumulated, and the fortitude or spirit of the group to accept the difficulties.

“There are groups that in the face of difficulties they move away, they don’t want to belong to something that isn’t going through an attractive moment.

"There are other groups that come together to the place where they belong and they made a maximum effort to modify the realities that affect their people, their club and their fans.

"The challenge for a coach in the adversity is to try and find this type of feeling.”
