U23s Preview: Everton vs Leeds United

U23s Preview: Everton vs Leeds United

Whites back in league action.

Mark Jackson’s Under-23s are back in Premier League 2 Division One action on Monday evening, when they travel away from home to face Everton (19:00).

The match will be played at The Pure Stadium in Merseyside, which is the home of Vanarama National League North side, Southport FC. For fans wishing to attend the game, ticketing information is at the bottom of the page.

Following the international break, Jackson’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways against the Toffees. Having started the season with three consecutive wins away from home, the Whites lost away at Leicester City last time out to end that run.

David Unsworth’s side have found wins hard to come by up to this point, with just the one in the league. That came on home turf against Derby County, thanks to an early goal from top-scorer, Charlie Whitaker.

Joe Gelhardt remains top of the scoring charts for the Whites with six. The striker followed up his recent England U21 call up by making his Premier League debut off the bench at Southampton on Saturday.

A number of Gelhardt’s fellow teammates were involved with their respective international sides over the recent break, with all eyes on who will make the starting XI on Monday night, now they have returned to Thorp Arch.

Currently sitting in mid-table, Leeds will be looking to claw back some ground on teams above them, with the majority having played a game more. A win could see Jackson’s side move above both West Ham United and Manchester United into fourth spot, on 14 points.

Whilst in a relegation place at the minute, but like Leeds having games in hand over others, three points for the hosts on Monday evening would move Unsworth’s side out of the drop zone as they look to progress up the standings.
