Mark Jackson: It’s about what we can do

U23s head coach ahead of Derby match.

Mark Jackson has give his thoughts on the preparation of his side, ahead of the trip to face Derby County Under 23s on Friday evening.

The Premier League 2 clash will be played at the Loughborough University Stadium (7pm) and will be the second match this week for the Whites, after playing Tottenham on Monday.

“In a short turnaround in games like this, part of it is about recovery as well,” Jackson explained.

“We have to get the players recovered properly and look back on the game as well from Monday, which we have done, then to try and prepare as well as you can.

“The preparation hasn’t been a normal week, but that to be fair, can be quite normal in itself! We know how to deal with that and we’re all ready to go on Friday night.”

Derby have only played one match in the league so far, after their fixture with fellow East Midlands side, Leicester City was called off earlier in the week.

On the match, Jackson said: “We know a little bit about them, we’ve watched their last game and a few from last season as well.

“I think there has probably been a few changes in their camp, with regards to their current situation going on.

“They’re an established club at Category One level so they will have good players and we have to be wary of them.

“We’ve got ideas how they will play in and out of possession like we always do with any opposition, but ultimately like any game, it’s about what we can do as well.

“Monday was an eye opener for the boys, teams have that extra quality where they can be even more clinical in the final third in this league.

“If we take the positives in our game from Monday and address a few bits as well, we’ll have a good chance.”
