Mark Jackson: It’s nice to get the win in a new league

U23s head coach on Palace victory.

Mark Jackson gave his thoughts to LUTV after seeing his side earn their first three points of the Premier League 2 Division One season.

Having both been promoted together last year, Leeds and Palace played out a hard-fought and battling match, which saw the Whites run out 3-1 winners at Selhurst Park.

“I am pleased with the win,” Jackson told LUTV after the game.

“I just said congratulations to the boys because any victory is a good victory.

“There are certain elements of the game where we need to be better, but for the first game of the season it was a competitive game and a challenging game.

“Palace going down to 10 men is not as easy at it sounds, to play against. They were organised, hard-working, so it is really pleasing to get the win but there are areas we can work on.”

Jackson’s was pleased that his side had a lot of success in wide areas, with all three goals coming courtesy of moves that found the wingers.

He said: “The wide players were influential.

“We knew we had players out wide who can hurt teams and that we needed to utilise our wide areas more, to circulate and control the ball a bit better.

“They were an influence on the game, and like I said, we can get better at certain things and certainly one of them is our control of the game.”

All three goals were scored by different players, as Crysencio Summerville, Liam McCarron and Sean McGurk hit the net.

“We like to score goals, we like to be an attacking force who create chances,” Jackson explained.

“I am not fussed who scores the goals, but as long as we create them in our way, we are happy with that.

“It’s nice to get the win in a new league.”
