Illan Meslier pens new long-term contract

Goalkeeper commits his future to the club.

Leeds United are delighted to announce Illan Meslier has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The Frenchman has put pen to paper on a five-year-deal, keeping him at Elland Road until the summer of 2026.

The 21-year-old joined Leeds from Lorient, initially on loan, in the summer of 2019 and has gone on to establish himself as the club’s first choice goalkeeper.

After making his senior debut in the FA Cup against Arsenal in January 2020, the next month, Meslier went on to make his first league outing for the Whites, in the 4-0 away win at Hull City.

In total, the goalkeeper made 10 Championship appearances as the Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years, at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

After agreeing to make his stay in West Yorkshire permanent, Meslier produced some fine performances between the sticks for the Whites last season, making a total of 35 appearances, keeping 11 clean sheets and helping Leeds finish ninth in the top-flight.

In the process, he broke Joe Hart’s 14-year Premier League record, with eight clean sheets prior to his 21st birthday.

Meslier’s impressive displays also led to him making his France Under-21 debut over the summer.
