Jamie Shackleton: Getting the minutes is important

Midfielder after Betis friendly.

Jamie Shackleton put in another impressive display on Saturday lunchtime, as the Whites played Europa League side, Real Betis.

In what was a competitive fixture at the Loughborough University Stadium, the La Liga outfit came out on top in the entertaining five goal encounter.

Chatting to LUTV after full-time, Shackleton gave his thoughts on the match.

He said: “It was tough, particularly a stage in the second half they kept the ball and we struggled to win the ball back high up the pitch, which we always try to do.

“They played out well, which gave us a bit of a run around at times but we kept going and as the game went on I thought we dealt with that better.

“They’re a good side, good on the ball and brave playing out, receiving it in dangerous areas and being confident.

“They managed to play out well at times and we struggled with the press.

“We play as if it’s a league game, no holding back. We worked hard, ran around and we gave it our all.”

After featuring heavily against Betis and Blackburn on Wednesday night, the 21-year-old is happy to be getting game time and wants to impress ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

“Getting the minutes is important,” Shackleton explained.

“I got 90 the other night and about 70 today. It’s good to get minutes and get the match sharpness back ready for the season.

“Everyone wants to impress and get up to 100% so that we are ready to go in two weeks time.”
