Marcelo Bielsa has spoken with the media ahead of what will be an emotional final day of the Premier League season.

Leeds are set to take on West Bromwich Albion at Elland Road, where they will be roared on by home support for the first time in over a year.  

Despite being relegated, Sunday’s visitors have improved in the second half of the campaign. Sam Allarydce is set to take control of his final game in charge of the Baggies on Sunday, against the Whites. 

“The arrival of Allardyce helped the people to visualise with the performances and results the quality that the team has,” Bielsa explained. 

“You can see clearly in the performances of the team and the way they have competed, there is nothing better than to watch the production of the performances of the team to show the qualities Mr Allardyce has.”

Following the win over Southampton in midweek, Leeds are guaranteed to finish inside the top 10. The head coach was asked what he expected from the group prior to the season beginning.

He said: “I didn’t expect anything in particular, the players deserve to get to the place in which they are. 

“This campaign and this performance it was based on two great capacities. 

“The human group that they’ve formed at the club, it is very difficult to be as united on the pitch as they have shown to be without being in a similar way outside of the field. 

“The togetherness within the people within the squad, the human factor, the values, the living together, the generosity, the interest of their own but also of their own teammates and the respect and gratitude of the support they’ve received throughout the cub. 

“The players are the most important thing what happens with a club.”

Giving team news ahead of the match, the confirmed absentees of Mateusz Klich and Robin Koch will be joined by Diego Llorente. 

Bielsa said: “Llorente is not with us [for Sunday]. 

Throughout the first half against Southampton he felt something in his muscle. If he continued he could have got injured where he had previously got injured before, that’s why we decided he shouldn’t have participated in the second half of that game or Sunday.  

“Every decision I have taken, I take it thinking of the player and Leeds United, not thinking in other aspects. 

“In no way did I want to risk Llorente having another muscular problem as he had a few throughout the season.

“Nor did I want to take the risk of a slight problem in his hip to get worse for Koch and I considered the amount of minutes Klich had played in the past three seasons and the affect the competition produced in him.”
